2015 Billboard Women In Music: Selena Gomez To Receive ‘Chart Topper’ Award

Selena Gomez, who recently graced the October 17 cover of Billboard magazine, will be named the “Chart Topper” artist at the brand’s annual Women in Music event, on December 11 in New York City. The award recognizes an artist with major career milestones on Billboard’s music charts. Billboard, the leading global destination for charts, news, business, lifestyle and innovations in music, with exclusive broadcast partner Lifetime, will air the awards for the first time on December 18.

“Revival,” the new album from multi-platinum singer and actress Selena Gomez, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 bowing with 117,000 equivalent album units. It also shifted more units than any other album this week. This is Gomez’s second No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart. Total worldwide sales of Gomez’s albums stand at nearly 6.7 million units and single sales are over 22 million worldwide.

The first single from “Revival,” “Good For You” featuring A$AP Rocky, is Gomez’s biggest hit to date. It is her fastest-ever platinum seller as well as her highest charting single on the Billboard Hot 100. “Good For You” spent three consecutive weeks at No. 1 at Top 40 radio.

“In the last few months, Selena has broken onto the scene as an adult, and come into her own as an artist with the success of Revival,” said Janice Min, co-president and chief creative officer of Guggenheim Media’s Entertainment Group, which consists of Billboard and The Hollywood Reporter. “We want to highlight this moment for a woman who has become a role model for many, a feminist, an independent voice whose new album truly showcases her as a mature artist.”

Gomez will be honored as the “Chart Topper” artist at the Women in Music ceremony, held in conjunction with the publication of Billboard’s Women in Music list, which selects the year’s 50 most powerful female executives in the industry.

Earlier this month Lady Gaga was selected as the 2015 “Woman of the Year” based on her industry leadership, artistry, philanthropy, innovative contribution to music and inspiration to millions. In the coming weeks, Billboard will announce additional celebrities and performers.
