In Australian labels, Margot Robbie shines while performing in her native country.

The Babylon star has worn a roster of local labels while on tour in Australia, from slinky Christopher Esber to separates by Anna Quan.

Nellie LaRoy may show up to a studio executive’s Hollywood Hills party in nothing but a few strips of red chiffon, but Margot Robbie’s personal style veers much more towards the classically elegant than that of her onscreen counterpart in Babylon.

Currently, she is on tour promoting the Damien Chazelle-directed epic, which tracks Hollywood’s transition from silent cinema to the ‘talkies’ in the 1920s. Robbie is LaRoy, a fictional rebel actress making her way in young Hollywood, newcomer Diego Calva co-stars as a lackey-turned-studio-executive, and Brad Pitt is as a seasoned actor counting his days left in the spotlight.

And while on the Australian leg of her tour, Robbie, ever the charming homegrown star, has been championing local brands.

For a photocall in Sydney on Monday January 16, she wore Christopher Esber, the Australian label favoured by It-girls the world over. “Dressing Margot for her Babylon tour has been a privilege. Margot radiates strength, confidence, and timelessness not only through her style choices, but through her discerning body of work,” Christopher Esber, the man behind the self-titled brand, told Vogue Australia. Those qualities radiated through her restrained, decisive choice: a strapless dusky grey top, paired with a long cummerbund skirt, both from the label’s resort 2023 collection. Paired with slightly messy hair, it was a look that projected breezy effortlessness. “Being Australian, she captures a genuine sense of ease which is so synergistic with the brand,” says Esber.

Robbie has a certain affinity for the suit, as she has evidenced both on the red carpet and off. Walking around Sydney later in the week, she changed into relaxed tailoring by emerging local label Beare Park, founded in 2021 by Gabriela Pereira. With its fluid separates and coolly elegant silhouettes, it’s a natural fit for Robbie, who doesn’t go in for too much fuss when it comes to fashion. She was a vision in all-white, wearing a loose vest and flowing white trousers with black sandals and rectangular glasses. For her appearance on The Project, Robbie chose a tan suit also by Beare Park, slightly oversized and slouchy.

Pereira told Vogue Australia she was “thrilled” to see her pieces on Robbie, who she considered “a perfect embodiment” of the brand’s ethos. She also welcomes the support that it will give to Australian-made pieces with sustainable practices behind them: Beare Park is a Sydney-based brand whose pieces are all produced locally.

For her press junket on Wednesday, Robbie again chose a local label—and prioritised comfort above all else. Golden, silky separates by Anna Quan saw her through a day of interviews, and even evoked a touch of old Hollywood glamour in their casual take on luxury.Margot Robbie in Anna Quan. Modern, unfussy elegance has long been Robbie’s fashion signature—and it makes sense, given it’s clearly what Australians do best.

Here, shop her style.
