One Piece’s Kaido King of the Beasts Is Battle Ready as an Impressively Detailed Statue

Kaido’s powerful and enormous dragon form is brought to life in a brand-new One Piece collectible statue that features a tiny little Monkey D. Luffy.

Tamashii Nations has released another impressive One Piece collectible statue, bringing Kaido, The King of the Beast, to life.

Available for preorder on Sideshow and retailing for $170, the Kaido figure stands almost a foot tall and recreates the fearsome pirate’s dragon form in an incredible level of detail with individual scales clearly articulated. The item also includes a tiny statue of Monkey D. Luffy, emphasizing Kaido’s immense size and power.

Eiichiro Oda first published his beloved One Piece manga in Shueisha’s Weekly Shōnen Jump in 1997, and he has gone on to write and draw over 1,000 individual chapters so far. Earlier this year, the mangaka revealed how much work it takes to craft such a massive world and story, disclosing that he actually relies on fan-made websites to keep all the small but important details straight. One Piece tells the story of Luffy, a young pirate captain who dreams of becoming the next King of the Pirates, as he and his colorful crew sail across the Grand Line, searching for adventure and the titular hidden treasure.

One Piece Inspires Fan Creativity

Oda’s masterpiece has a truly enormous fan following; with over 516 million copies in circulation worldwide, One Piece stands as the uncontested best-selling manga in history. Beyond purchasing copies of the story, fans celebrate the plot, world and characters by making their own content, particularly cosplay. For example, Taryn Cosplay shared a video of a Roronoa Zoro cosplay that spotlights one of the Pirate Hunter’s defining characteristics, and Kappy_w uploaded images of a genderswapped version of the villainous Edward Weevil.

Fans have more to be excited about than just new collectibles and cosplay. Notably, Bandai Namco Entertainment recently announced a DLC for the tie-in role-playing video game, One Piece Odyssey. “Reunion of Memories” will take place after the title’s main storyline and will see the Straw Hat Pirates travel to Memoria, the realm of memories. The trailer teases the appearances of fan-favorite characters like Trafalgar D. Water Law, Crocodile, Mihawk and Whitebeard.

Moreover, Netflix’s live-action One Piece series, which stars Iñaki Godoy as Luffy, will likely premiere sometime this year. A prominent Twitter news account for the franchise leaked details about the first season, including episode titles and runtimes, the budget and the logistics behind recreating Zoro’s three-sword style in live-action.

VIZ Media distributes Oda’s manga series in North America, and the anime adaptation by Toei Animation is available to stream on Crunchyroll.
